How to get children into the habit of reading? One story and 5 ways

Some passengers were already sitting in the car. Passengers were waiting for the time to walk. The driver and co-drivers were waiting for more passengers to fill the empty seats. The waiting time seemed too heavy. The mobile phone in hand seemed to support everyone. Everyone's eyes were fixed on the screen of the mobile. Everyone's head was bowed.
At the same time, a middle-aged woman entered the car with a child who looked like she was 6/7 years old. The arrival of a new passenger caught everyone's attention for a while. Everyone once looked at them with their eyes fixed on the mobile. New passengers do not seem to pay attention to that. Instead, she was looking for an empty seat. At the same time, the woman took the child with her and sat down in an empty seat.
Shortly after getting into the car, she took out two books from her bag after the usual arrangement of luggage and seats. She took one and gave the other to the little boy. After a while, the two seemed to enjoy reading the book. The other passengers of the vehicle did not pay attention to their activities. Everyone was busy on their mobiles again.
"Let's pay the fare before we drive." The co-driver entered the door speaking loudly. His voice was heard loudly between the closed car and the silent passengers. He added in the same voice, "If there is no one to get off in the middle, the vehicle will go through the inner road and stop only at the last station." That's why he started collecting rent from the front.
When he reached in front of the woman and the child, he smiled strangely once. "You have turned the book upside down. Sulto doesn't know what to read. ” The co-driver said in a sarcastic mixed voice. Maybe he wanted to make everyone laugh by telling them about the woman's ridiculous deeds.
The woman, who had read the book upside down, was suddenly frightened by the co-driver's intervention. She turned the book over for a while. When he saw the scene of him turning the book in confusion, it seemed that he did not know that the book would turn when he grabbed it from somewhere. "I can't read," she said in a humble but clear voice.
Not only the co-driver but also the other passengers were surprised to hear his answer.
"But this son of mine knows how to read." The woman humbly said in a clear voice, "I like to do what I did. After I grab the book, he also tries to read the book. No one reads it more than I read it using my mobile phone. ” The woman smiled and added, "The younger ones are learning what the older ones have done." That's why I unknowingly accepted the book to be his friend. ”
Everyone was amazed at the woman's ingenuity in building her son's character. You would have had an indelible impression on your mind when you saw this incident, but what is surprising is that we all know more or less what the role of parents should be in building the character of a child. If we have young children at home, we can see how quickly children learn from their parents. But we forget. We neglect to use what we see in our daily lives. We pay the price for this neglect as our children get older and as we get older.
The subject of what to teach your children and how to teach it is a very deep and wide-ranging subject. You can't write about it in an article using a few words. So in this article, keeping in mind everything else, I am only going to share some information on how to develop reading culture in children.
1. Reading is not an option
Probably no one thinks whether they can read or not. We all think that everyone should study, but the basic requirement that we must study is school or college education. There is a limit to what we are supposed to read. We forget that there are so many things to read outside the school and college curriculum. We just think it's good to read those things, but in fact this thinking is wrong. Reading is not an option, you should read it for the rest of your life.
Take your child away from the idea that reading is an option. Explain that reading is really a good thing. Reading culture is the least controversial culture in the world.
2. Find out what prevents it
You may even be told to read. There may be books all over the house. Your children may be trying to read, but they are not. This is a problem at home. Many of us think that technology, including mobiles and computers, is eroding the reading culture, but if you look at the statistics, the reading culture is good in developed countries. So it's not just mobile phones and computers that are to blame. The real reason may be different.
Friends' playing time also makes a difference. Family gatherings and family environment also influence the reading culture. If there are people who study at home, the interest of the children towards that will automatically increase. So instead of interfering with a child's daily life and forcing them to read, find out what is stopping them and take appropriate action.
3. How much do parents read?
I have already written about this above. Children learn from their parents. They don't care much about what their parents say, they just follow what their parents do. So read for yourself. It has a direct effect on children.
4. Do not harass children
It is good to read, not just for the sake of reading. When forced to do so, they feel overwhelmed and feel deprived of their freedom. How counterproductive it is that they are reluctant to read. So don't bully children. Make them understand why reading culture is fun. Creatively advertise what you read.
5. Read together and move on
If you study with children, they are directly motivated. In addition, they are encouraged to give a direct reward that they will receive this gift after reading this text or this book. Similarly, there are many children who are attracted to reading even if a lesson is given as a special attendance and rewarding the participants.
In the end, reading is a different joy. There are many things that can be learned by reading. So if you can attract your children to the reading culture, they will move forward in it themselves.
